Chapter 1 – Book 2
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared
And love me when I'm gone
Everything I am
And everything in me
Wants to be the one
You wanted me to be
I'll never let you down
Even if I could
I'd give up everything
If only for your good
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone
- When I’m Gone - Three Doors Down
“As you could’ve seen, I generally try not to get into relationships,” she started.
“Well, you can kind of tell you try not to get close,” he said as he tried to be understanding.
“That’s due to stuff that happen to me in high school and since then I was convinced I would never be able to be close to someone again… until recently.”
Kody just continued to listen.
“I don’t want to ruin anything that you have between you and Kimmy, because I do not wish to see her hurt again, but I do want you to know how I feel about you even though I know you probably won’t return the same feelings…” she turned away, feeling a little bit ashamed.
Neither of them said a word as Kody stared out the window. He realized that the plane was about to take off. He then turned back to Violet.
“Well I value your friendship dearly, Violet. I’m afraid, that that is all I really want right now. I just would like a really good friend to depend on. I’m sorry…” He said as he turned to the window again.
“I understand completely,” Violet smiled relieved that she finally got that off of her chest. Kody turned to her and smiled.
“Thanks for understanding. Now, I need to ask you a huge favor.”
“Whatever it is, just ask away,” Violet said smiling still.
“Well, the whole reason I’m going back to Australia is because of my mom.” Violet watched and listened intently. “She is…well she’s suffering; she’s dying.” At this Violet was taken aback.
“I’m so sorry,” she said as she patted him lightly on the shoulder. He smiled weakly.
“As my friend, I just need to ask you to keep in pretty low, don’t say a word. This is a hard time for my family with my mom in the hospital. So, don’t tell Kimmy, I’ll tell her when I’m ready but I just need to think things over. I’m afraid I might say something hurtful for talking about this anymore, that is why I want to be mostly secluded.”
“Don’t worry Kody, I know just what you mean. I felt the same way.” Kody smiled as he turned to Violet and gave her a quick hug.
“Thanks a lot Violet. You’re a real great friend.”
6 Months Later
“Hello, this is Rick Hoff with Channel 15 news at six. Now, here is Kelley Peterson who is in Sydney, Australia. How you doing Kelley?”
“Hello Rick, I’m doing great here in the Land Down Under. Yes, I am waiting for the opening of the new movie Creeping Under staring the famous Australian actor, Kody Cummings.
“Recently, Kody made his debut working as a full time actor here after his year acting career in California. So I’m here waiting with what seems like millions of fans just wanting a seat into this movie. Of course the co-star, the famous Australian favorite, Rachel Tanner, is here as well. We are all excited- and wait? Can it be? Yes! Here is Kody and Rachel now, coming down the red carpet leading into the theatre!
The camera on the T.V. turned to a couple walking down the carpet arm in arm. It was Kody and Rachel all right. They were both dressed up pretty fancy and smiled and waved as they walked inside.
Kimmy and Violet watched this from the comfort of their couch in Kimmy’s dorm. Kimmy watched with no expression while Violet looked between Kimmy and the T.V.
“What? Who is Rachel Tanner?” Kimmy asked turning to Violet. Violet shrugged.
“Well they said ‘a famous Australian favorite’ meaning she must be some actress from Australia.”
“No duh Vi!” Kimmy said furiously as she gritted her teeth at the T.V. “Is this the reason why Kody went back? Just for this…girl?
Violet immediately said no. Kimmy wasn’t convinced. “I really believed him when he said that he loved me, but you know, how would I know if he really meant it or not?”
“It’s just a female co-star. For Pete’s sake, I was his female co-star! Nothing happened there!” Violet said ironically. Kimmy turned to Violet who looked like she knew something more.
“I forgot to ask how your trip to Canada was. How was the weather…” Kimmy asked.
“Why would you ask that, that was a long time ago Kim…” She said hesitantly. Kimmy again wasn’t convinced.
“What did you do there?”
“You know…Canadian stuff…” Violet said faking her smile. Kimmy crossed her arms.
“Or should I say, how was Australia?”
“Australia? What do you mean? When did I take a trip there?” Violet asked trying to not blow her cover.
“You don’t need to act like you don’t know, obviously I know you went on the same plane as Kody…” Kimmy said. “Or the fact that you were sitting next to him at that…”
“Now that-that was the airline’s fault!” Violet snapped back.
“So you admit you went to Australia huh?”
“Uh…in my dreams…in my imagination yes.” Violet smiled again.
“Give it up…”
“Did Ashley tell you?” Violet asked quickly.
“Yes, now stay on topic…”
Violet made a motion to say something more but gave up. “It’s not like we did anything…” She said.
“Great…now Kody is interested in TWO girls…”
“I never said he was interested in me!” Violet yelled. “He still loves you!”
“I’m sure he does, how do you explain that then…” Kimmy said pointing to Rachel Tanner on the T.V.
“If you are so worried about the girl and if you really think Kody doesn’t love you, go find out for yourself!” Violet yelled. Quickly she realized she shouldn’t have said that. “On second thought, don’t-“
“I guess I should. Come on Violet, pack your bags, we’re going to Australia!”
